L.A. Wolves FC Kicks Off vs. FC Golden State Force in U.S. Open Cup First Round

May 9, 2018 – Los Angeles – L.A. Wolves FC might not look the same on the touchline as it did at this time last year, but the team on the field is hungrier than ever before.

L.A. Wolves FC plays FC Golden State Force (PDL) at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 9 at Rio Hondo College Stadium (3600 Workman Mill Road, Whittier, CA 90601) in a 2018 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup First Round game.

L.A. Wolves FC President and General Manager Yan Skwara said, "We are excited to step on the field Wednesday night. It has been a long process into getting to tonight's big match but we think we've made the right signings prior to deadline to bring the right elements to the table for success. We have assembled a solid group of experienced players coupled with great young talent. Head Coach Felipe Bernal and his coaching staff have done a fantastic job of prepping the squad for tonight's difficult match and they are up for the challenge and looking for the result. We look forward to a great match versus FC Golden State as we know they will be ready to battle."

L.A. Wolves FC, which reached the 2017 U.S. Open Cup Third Round, near the top of the UPSL Pro Premier Western Conference table through six games (5-1-0 overall) in the 2018 Spring Season.

L.A. Wolves FC has allowed a UPSL-low three goals this season and led by goalkeeper Cesar Ortega and a back four starring four-year veteran wing back Danny Hulbert. Mason Klerks, a 2017 Fall Season All-UPSL Team selection, and Carlos Figueroa are the center backs, and El Salvadorian international Henry Escobar is the fullback.

The club recently signed French attacking midfielder Anthony Sichi to spark the offense and play alongside center midfielder Cesar Rivera, with attacking talents German Alfaro, Luis Mora and Adrian Becerra on the wings.

Veteran strikers Mark Verso, MIguel Sanchez and Irvin Parra will look to break into the opponent's defensive third supported by the new guard of Wolves FC, young midfielders Julien Guy and Juan Quinonez.

Currently among the leaders in the UPSL Pro Premier Western Conference after a 3-0 victory over Ontario Fury II on Sunday, April 29, L.A. Wolves FC next plays SFV Scorpions FC in a league fixture on Saturday, May 12.

The club previously defeated Buena Park (Calif.) Football Club, 4-0, on Nov. 19, 2017, in Qualifying Round 3 to advance to its third consecutive U.S. Open Cup tournament. Wolves FC defeated Bellflower (Calif.)-based Real Sociedad Royals, 6-1, in Qualifying Round 1, and Irvine (Calif.)-based Vanquish FC, via forfeit, in Qualifying Round 2.

The UPSL 2017 Spring Season champion, L.A. Wolves FC joins three fellow United Premier Soccer League clubs (Santa Ana Winds FC, La Maquina FC and Sporting AZ FC) in the 2018 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

With a victory, L.A. Wolves FC's will advance in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup for the third time.

L.A. Wolves FC is a charter member of the United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) and competes in the Pro Premier Division Western Conference. The club also manages a reserve squad and oversees L.A. Wolves FC Youth Soccer Program.
